California Population 2015-2030 – Riverside County Projections

California Population 2015-2030
Riverside County Projections

All the numbers are projections made by the State Department of Finance.  I have no idea how accurate they will be.  The source is Table P-2 from

http://www.dof.ca.gov/Forecasting/Demographics/projections/

See the two tables at the end of this discussion for details.

Note that Riverside County will be majority Hispanic by about 2030.

By age

1.  The population from ages 0-19 will increase slightly.  The working-age population (ages 20-64) will increase by about 20%.  The population ages 65+ will increase by about 75%, with the ages 65+ fraction of the population increasing from about 13% to 19%.

2.  By age and race

All ages:

The overall population will increase by about 23%.  The population of Whites and Asians will increase. Most of the population increase will be due to the increase in the Hispanic population (about 350,000 or a 33% increase in the Hispanic population).

Ages 0-19 – children:

The total population in this age range will increase slightly.

Ages 20-64 – working ages:

The population in this age group will increase by about 270,000 (20%), mostly driven by an increase of about 230,000 (37%) increase in the number of working age Hispanics.  Obvious substantial challenges and opportunities are to develop jobs for these workers and to better incorporate Hispanics into the developing high-tech, high-skills, high-education economy.  Note that Riverside County can in some ways be regarded as two distinct regions:  the suburban areas of Riverside, Corona, and Moreno Valley (from which it is possible – if unpleasant – to commute to Los Angeles and Orange Counties), and the more distant Coachella Valley region.  The population projections are not broken down by these regions.

Ages 65+ – seniors:

There will be an enormous (75%!!) increase in the population of seniors.
