California Population 2015-2030 – San Diego County Projections

California Population 2015-2030
San Diego County Projections

All the numbers are projections made by the State Department of Finance.  I have no idea how accurate they will be.  The source is Table P-2 from

http://www.dof.ca.gov/Forecasting/Demographics/projections/

See the two tables at the end of this discussion for details.

By age

1.  The population from ages 0-19 will increase slightly.  The working-age population (ages 20-64) will be essentially unchanged.  The population ages 65+ will increase by about 65%, with the ages 65+ fraction of the population increasing from about 13% to 20%.  That is, 80% of the increase in population will be due to the increase in the number of seniors.

2.  By age and race

All ages:

The overall population will increase by about 11%.  The population of Whites will be essentially unchanged.  The population of Asians will increase. Most of the population increase will be due to the increase in the Hispanic population (about 250,000 or a 23% increase in the Hispanic population).

Ages 0-19 – children:

The total population in this age range will increase slightly.

Ages 20-64 – working ages:

The total population in this age group will be essentially unchanged, perhaps resulting in labor shortages as the economy expands.  The number of Whites will decline significantly (-16%).  The number of Hispanics will increase significantly (by about 136,000, or about 21%).  Obvious substantial challenges and opportunities are to develop jobs for these workers and to better incorporate Hispanics into the developing high-tech, high-skills, high-education economy

Ages 65+ – seniors:

There will be an enormous (65%!!) increase in the population of seniors.
